Processing Solutions for Ball Nuts & Planetary Nuts
The nut is the core moving component of the screw assembly. It is critical for equipment requiring high-precision, heavy-load linear displacement control. The finishing of the internal nut raceway is the most demanding step; it requires a strict balance of profile accuracy, surface roughness, and mass-production stability to ensure smooth engagement with the screw.

The Challenge
- Rigidity & Vibration: Machining deep internal bores often leads to tool chatter due to poor equipment rigidity, compromising the surface finish.
- Precision Control: Maintaining tight dimensional and geometric tolerances inside a hardened nut is notoriously difficult.
Our Solution
Recommended Equipment: Horizontal Precision Lathe
- "Turning Instead of Grinding": This machine is engineered for high-precision hard turning. It replaces traditional internal grinding, allowing for the complete machining of complex geometries in a single setup (clamping).
- Sub-Micron Accuracy: The machine rigidity allows for process stability that rivals grinding. It achieves sub-micron level precision and superior surface quality directly on hardened workpieces.
Recommended Cutting Tools: PCBN Cutting Tools (Tool Bits for Turning)
Elbow Grinding
The Challenge
- Interference: When grinding nuts with small deep holes or large helix angles (large lead), a standard straight grinding quill will physically collide (interfere) with the thread flank due to the steep lead angle.
- Deformation: Thin-walled nuts are highly sensitive to clamping forces and cutting pressure, leading to ovality or distortion during processing.
Our Solution
Recommended Cutting Tools: Elbow Grinding Whirling Tools
- Geometry: Specifically designed for internal thread grinding of special nuts. The "Elbow" (bent) design aligns the grinding wheel with the helix angle, eliminating interference issues common with large-lead nuts.
- Advantage: Compared to standard interference grinding, the elbow grinding whirling tool offers significantly higher stability, a consistent contact angle, and superior surface roughness.
